DIRECT PRIMARY CARE MODEL

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is reshaping healthcare by giving you a direct, no‑hassle connection to your physician through an affordable monthly membership. By removing insurance middlemen, we cut out endless forms, copays, and billing games—freeing up more time, energy, and resources to focus on what matters most: your health. We work for you, not insurance companies, so every decision is centered on your well-being.

In the traditional model, doctors often carry 2,500+ patients, cramming in 10–15 minute visits while juggling mountains of insurance paperwork. The result? Rushed care, long waits, and difficulty getting timely answers.

At PridePoint Health, we do things differently. We keep our patient panel intentionally small so you get:

  • All visits included in your membership — no copays or surprise bills
  • Longer, unrushed appointments
  • Same‑ or next‑day scheduling (often within hours)
  • Direct access to your doctor without navigating customer service lines
  • Wholesale pricing on labs, imaging, and medications

You can still use insurance for services outside of your membership—like specialty care or medications at outside pharmacies—but your primary care stays simple, affordable, and personal.

Our model removes the barriers and frustrations of traditional healthcare, giving you better access, more personalized care, and clear, predictable costs every month.

While there are similarities, Direct Primary Care (DPC) is not concierge medicine. Both models offer smaller patient panels, same‑ or next‑day appointments, longer visits, and direct communication with your doctor. The difference comes down to cost and accessibility.

At PridePoint Health, you get concierge‑level attention without concierge‑level prices. Our affordable flat monthly fee covers nearly all primary care services, with no insurance billing, no copays, and no surprise charges—so we can focus entirely on your health.

Concierge practices typically charge much higher annual retainers and bill insurance, which often drives up costs and reintroduces the same red tape DPC avoids. They also tend to target a more affluent demographic, while DPC is designed to be accessible, affordable, and comprehensive for a much broader community.

A few of the many benefits of Direct Primary Care — explained in detail here — include:

  • Enhanced access to your doctor – No more long waits or rushed appointments. You get same‑ or next‑day scheduling, longer visits, and direct communication with your physician when you need it.
  • Clear, predictable costs – All visits are included in your membership, with no copays, no deductibles, and no surprise bills. With direct primary care, you never have to delay getting the care you need just because you haven’t met your deductible yet.
  • Truly patient‑centered care – Build a long‑term relationship with a doctor who knows you, your goals, and your health history. With no insurance barriers, you always have access to the care and medications you need.
  • Support for local, inclusive care – Choosing PridePoint means supporting a small, local LGBTQ‑owned clinic. In a healthcare world dominated by big corporations, we stay personal, compassionate, and rooted in our community.

GETTING STARTED & ELIGIBILITY

We know healthcare costs are a major concern. In the corporate healthcare system, multiple stakeholders drive up expenses, leaving patients with higher bills and less time with their doctor. That’s why we chose the direct care model—an affordable alternative that often costs less than your daily coffee or phone bill. Many of our patients actually save money compared to traditional care.

With no copays, no surprise inflated bills, and all visits included, you’ll know exactly what you’re paying for. Plus, our members enjoy wholesale pricing on labs and medications, same‑ or next‑day appointments, direct access to their doctor, and longer, more personalized visits. Our mission is simple: make high‑quality care both accessible and affordable—so you can focus on your health, not your medical bills.

Yes! Pairing our Direct Primary Care (DPC) membership with your health insurance can lower your total healthcare costs while giving you better access to care.

Compared to having a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) alone, adding DPC can save you over $300 per year. And when compared to a gold, low‑deductible plan with copays, the savings can exceed $2,000 per year. See our full cost comparison.

And remember — all visits are included in your monthly membership, with no copays or surprise bills. You’ll also enjoy:

  • Direct access to a doctor who knows you
  • No wait times and unrushed visits
  • A long list of included services
  • Convenient lab testing
  • Wholesale pricing on labs, imaging, and medications

It’s not just about spending less — it’s about getting more from your healthcare.

  • Are you frustrated with today’s healthcare system?
  • Do high costs or surprise bills keep you from seeing a doctor?
  • Have you been left waiting weeks for an appointment—only to be rushed through in 10 minutes?
  • Do you want a long‑term, meaningful relationship with a doctor who knows you and your health?
  • Would you value same‑day or next‑day appointments that start on time, plus the option to handle simple issues over email, text, or phone directly with your physician?

If you answered “yes” to any of these, PridePoint Health could be the right choice—offering you personal, affordable, and barrier‑free care when you need it most.

We offer different memberships to provide tailored care for specific needs, such as PrEP and STI care or gender‑affirming care. We recognize the distress of not knowing if your provider is experienced or even comfortable managing gender‑affirming hormones or discussing sexual health in a non‑judgmental way. These memberships allow us to deliver essential services at a lower cost for those who don’t need comprehensive primary care. This also ensures continuity and personalized care without interruptions to your prescriptions. We offer a discounted rate of $89/month for those that wish to combine both PrEP and Gender Affirming memberships.

For those seeking full primary care, our DPC membership includes all services from the PrEP and Gender Affirming Care plans.

Absolutely! In fact, joining when you’re healthy is one of the smartest investments you can make in your long‑term well‑being.

Most traditional healthcare is reactive—waiting until you’re sick or in pain before acting. At PridePoint Health, our care is proactive, focusing on prevention, early detection, and optimizing your health while you’re feeling your best. This means more than just an annual physical:

  • Ongoing prevention — From blood pressure and cholesterol checks to personalized nutrition and lifestyle guidance, we help you avoid problems before they start.
  • Early detection — Many conditions, like high blood pressure or diabetes, can develop silently for years. Catching them early often means easier, more effective treatment.
  • Long‑term relationship — You’ll have a physician who knows your history, understands your goals, and can guide you through each stage of life.
  • Same‑ or next‑day access when you need it — If you ever do get sick or injured, you’ll skip the waitlists and see your doctor right away.

Think of us as your health partner for the next decade, not just the next cold or injury. By staying connected now, you’re far more likely to avoid chronic disease, enjoy better quality of life, and stay active well into the future.

Of course! Our clinic welcomes people from all backgrounds. While we specialize in providing supportive and affirming care to the LGBTQ+ community, we are committed to offering high‑quality healthcare to everyone. Our doors are open to all individuals seeking comprehensive, personalized medical care, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, body size, race, ethnicity, national origin or religious affiliation. We believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all our patients.

To keep things simple and consistent for all of our patients, we do not provide visits or care outside of our standard membership system.

No, we don’t require a long‑term commitment. You’re free to cancel at any time with just a 30‑day notice. We believe healthcare should be flexible and built around your needs. Plus, we’re confident that you’ll love the personalized care and attention you receive, so we don’t feel the need to lock anyone into a contract. You’re welcome to stay as long as you find value in our services.

BILLING & INSURANCE

If you decide to cancel your membership, just give us a 30‑day notice—no hassle. If you’ve signed up for an annual term and choose to cancel, we’ll simply refund the remaining balance of your membership. We’re always here to make the process smooth and straightforward for you!

Absolutely. HSA and FSA debit and credit cards are accepted. We take check, cash, credit card, debit cards and ACH.

No, direct primary care is not an insurance plan. The monthly membership is for comprehensive, all‑inclusive primary care services. See our list of services included in your membership.

Absolutely. Although we recommend everyone carry high deductible insurance or health sharing coverage, we do not turn anyone away due to lack of insurance. At PridePoint Health, we do our best to make comprehensive primary care affordable for those with or without insurance. Our Direct Primary Care memberships include as many services as possible in your plan and get you wholesale pricing on labs and imaging studies, with discounts ranging from 50–90% off.

While a well‑trained primary care physician can provide up to 90% of your healthcare needs, we do recommend pairing DPC with a low‑cost health plan that covers unforeseen major health events. This is similar to how we think about car insurance. We pay out of pocket for affordable, preventative maintenance and repairs, but carry insurance to limit financial risk in case of unforeseen catastrophic events, such as a major car accident. This is a more efficient, cost‑saving model that avoids the unnecessary administrative and financial burdens of dealing with insurance companies.

We apply a similar model, allowing us to save on time and overhead costs and pass this on to our patients by providing far more value.

PPO (preferred provider organization) and POS (point of service) plans work well in combination with direct primary care as there are no restrictions on specialty referrals or lab/imaging orders. HMO (health maintenance organization) plans are not ideal, because they’re more restrictive and require an “in network” assigned primary care provider for orders and referrals to specialists in their network. We can work with you if you are in an HMO, but you will likely need to find a PCP that is willing to transcribe orders and help with referrals.

High deductible health plans (HDHP) under your PPO or POS work best, as these plans typically save you hundreds of dollars in monthly premiums and have you covered in case catastrophic health emergencies arise. Even the most comprehensive, gold‑standard low‑deductible plans include co‑pays and other hidden costs, yet still cost several hundred dollars more a month than our membership. By choosing a more affordable, high‑deductible plan and pairing with DPC, you can save money while maintaining access to the highest quality, transparent healthcare available.

If you don’t qualify for Medicaid, a health sharing program could be an affordable way to protect yourself from unforeseen medical expenses. Health share programs have been around since the 1980s and offer a low‑cost alternative to traditional insurance. These programs are made up of members who pool their resources to help cover each other’s medical costs. However, unlike insurance, health shares aren’t regulated and don’t have to cover pre‑existing conditions or meet the mandates of the Affordable Care Act.

While your PridePoint Health membership covers all‑inclusive, comprehensive primary care, a health share can help with bigger expenses like emergency care, hospitalizations, specialty care, and surgeries. Together, a DPC membership and a health share plan are often much more affordable than even the lowest‑cost insurance premiums. For instance, Zion Healthshare offers plans starting at just $80 per month.

Remember, insurance companies don’t deliver healthcare — doctors do. Even the best insurance plan can still leave you with rushed visits, long waits, and surprise bills. The good news? We can help change that.

While we don’t bill insurance directly, you can still use it for services outside our care—like medications, lab work, imaging, and specialist visits. Our Direct Primary Care membership is designed to simplify your primary care experience: no co‑pays, no deductibles, no surprise bills, and all visits included.

Many members actually save money thanks to our wholesale pricing on labs and medications. In fact, pairing DPC with a lower‑cost, high‑deductible plan can offer the best of both worlds—affordable coverage for major medical needs and exceptional, unlimited primary care when you need it. See how DPC compares to traditional insurance.

CARE DELIVERY & SERVICES

While lab draws performed in our private clinic are included at no cost, the costs for running the lab tests are not included in the membership. Some patients prefer to use their insurance to cover the cost of lab testing. For those with lab co‑pays or those who are uninsured or underinsured, we negotiate wholesale lab pricing at 80–90% discounts, often making lab work more affordable than it would be if using insurance. Our goal is to provide cost‑effective options for all patients.

Yes — our members get access to some of the lowest cash prices available on lab testing and common medications. We’ve negotiated wholesale rates so you pay what we pay plus a small 10% fee to cover our costs — with no hidden fees — and it’s often less than running them through insurance.

For example:

  • A common comprehensive lab panel can be around $3 instead of $30–$40+ in the traditional healthcare system.
  • A widely prescribed cholesterol medication can be just a few dollars every 3 months compared to $10–$15+ at retail pharmacies.

Many members save hundreds of dollars a year by choosing wholesale pricing over insurance for routine labs and prescriptions.

Better care, lower costs, and complete price transparency — that’s just part of the PridePoint Health difference.

Well‑trained primary care physicians can manage up to 90% of your healthcare needs. We use a wide variety of tools to help you with any diagnosis and treatment plan. As board‑certified primary care physicians, we are trained in broad and diverse methods of managing any particular diagnosis. The biggest tool that we have is time—time to read and understand your diagnosis and do our best work for you. Regardless, we know our scope and when specialty support is needed.

As trusted primary care physicians in the community for several years, we have great working relationships with specialists in the greater Portland area. By partnering with a network of preferred providers, we ensure seamless coordination and access to high‑quality diagnostic services and specialist care. Our team will manage all referrals and follow‑ups, ensuring continuity of care and timely access to the medical services you need while allowing you to utilize your insurance benefits.

By providing better access to your doctor and focusing on prevention, DPC has been shown to reduce hospitalizations for their patients. However if you are hospitalized, we’re still here for you. We can coordinate with the hospitalist team to ensure continuity of care, providing clear documentation of your medical history and current health issues. While we don’t manage your hospital care directly, we’re available to support and collaborate with the team to help ensure a smooth transition and ongoing care when you’re discharged.

While we strive to provide our patients with unprecedented access to their physician, including after hours for urgent issues, we are a small practice and cannot always guarantee 24/7 availability. However, you can reach your physician directly via text and phone, and we’ll do our best to address your needs promptly. For non‑urgent matters, you can typically expect a response within 1–2 business days—no more waiting days to weeks before hearing back from your physician! We also support our patients 24/7 with after‑hours decision tools, ensuring you always have guidance when you need it.

While our physicians are well trained to manage chronic pain, we do not prescribe narcotics (opioids) for this purpose. This is due to an abundance of evidence demonstrating a multitude of risks and no long‑term benefit in reducing pain or improving one’s functional ability. If you are taking narcotic pain medications and would like to join, you may need to obtain these prescriptions through a pain specialist or we can discuss a safe discontinuation plan. We are experts at guiding patients through closely monitored tapers of their narcotic pain medications and offering non‑narcotic pain alternatives. This service is offered on a case‑by‑case basis. We can also recommend non‑pharmacologic pain therapies, which are safer and typically more effective long‑term.

We are comfortable managing a variety of mental health conditions and follow the most up‑to‑date guidelines. However, managing anxiety with chronic benzodiazepines is outside of our scope as primary care physicians. When patients with persistent anxiety are not responding to adequate trials of 1st, 2nd, 3rd‑line options, we will typically advise and coordinate a referral to a psychiatrist for the ongoing management of anxiety, PTSD, panic disorder, etc.
